Making Organizations More Effective

Transforming educational systems across Africa

“Educate!” is a program that trains young people to become leaders and entrepreneurs across Africa, with practical lessons in problem-solving and social innovation. It has been adopted as part of the national curriculum for all high school students in Uganda, and is now being integrated into the national curricula in nine other nations across the continent from Kenya to Cameroon.

I was a young educator struggling to build an impactful program in Uganda. There were only basic methods and junk science examples available to me until I came across TAI’s work. Transformative Action is how to turn good intentions into lasting behaviour change. It answers the hardest questions: how do people change and why do movements so often fail? The training and coaching by Transformative Action gave me the tools to revolutionize my approach. I am a better organization leader and teacher. Today, I reach over 25,000 African students a year. This is the power of Transformative Action--a global ripple effect of changemakers."

Creating a way to deliver vaccines to the millions of people who can’t access them

2.1 million people die each year from vaccine-preventable diseases because of accessibility problems. As a senior at UC Berkeley, Nanxi helped develop a breakthrough technology that enables vaccines to be delivered to anywhere in the world without refrigeration. This became an award-winning social enterprise, Nanoly. She then went on to start another successful enterprise, Enplug, before the age of 23.

“The successes of both Enplug and Nanoly can directly be attributed to the support, training, and mentorship I received from the Transformative Action Institute. If every entrepreneur could experience a Transformative Action Institute program, startups would have a much higher success rate. The work the Institute does is meaningful and necessary.”

Delivering high quality, low-cost healthcare to the world’s poor

"I'm extremely privileged to have gone through TAI, and I can clearly credit it with converting me into a social entrepreneur. What started in the TAI classroom is now, only a few years later, an organization of 315 people that has delivered healthcare to nearly 300,000 people in one of the poorest parts of the world.”

Mark Arnoldy, Founder and Former CEO, Possible, Head of Customer Success, Asana

Addressing the most pressing social issues facing communities

TAI is “an innovative thought leader in the social entrepreneurship and leadership space, and has provided expertise to support many university programs, fellowships, incubators, accelerators and training programs around the world.”  Thus, Points of Light invited TAI to help create and design the Civic Accelerator.

Over the last three years, we have supported and graduated 74 teams and over 150 entrepreneurs and invested $600,000 in peer-selected teams.  Our portfolio of civic ventures have directly mobilized 397,000 people, with a broader reach of 4.2 million people, to address the most pressing social issues facing communities in the areas of education, environment, economic development and tech-for-good.

We view TAI’s training, insights, and ongoing advice and support, as essential elements of our program and our success.”

Changing the traditional higher education experience

“It is by far the best model I know to develop the skills of personal and social change: empathy, creativity, resilience, grit, leadership, and entrepreneurship.”

Developing a “new science of change”

Transformative action “may emerge as a new science of change that one day could become an academic discipline no less common than physics, engineering, or chemistry. The impact that TAI was able to leave on our team in just two short days of teeing up our Dream Academy training program has stuck with us to this day – and my mind is always racing to think about the next big project on which we can all work together. But what it races even faster for is when I'm thinking about the different world we will have on our hands when TAI’s work really takes off not only at The Future Project, but within the walls of every non-profit, high school, and university in the world.

“Put simply, the Transformation Action Institute is a revolutionary approach to the topic of revolution, and The Future Project was, in the literal sense of the world, transformed, and so was I personally, to be exposed to it at such a formative moment. I'll be forever grateful for that and forever in anticipation of the emergence of the science of change that it can inspire.”
