Training the next generation of social entrepreneurs and innovators
At schools throughout the world, we help train the next generation of social entrepreneurs, innovators, heroes and heroines – the young people who will help solve the greatest challenges of the 21st century.
How we do it:
In order to achieve our mission, we have three main activities:
1. We curate and disseminate the best scientific research on how people transform their lives and communities.
Our company was based in groundbreaking research on how people win when they are trying to change the world. Since that time, we have continued to build on this original scientific research. We incorporate the most important findings of countless researchers around the world who are studying how to cultivate pro-social behavior.
2. We educate thousands of young people annually in this “science of making the world a better place” through our innovative workshops, programs, and classes.
We offer Teachers’ Manuals and training for educators – offering more than 80 hours’ worth of materials for classes, seminars, and workshops to train young people in how to make a positive difference in the world. This is ideal for educators who are interested in how to teach students to be good, responsible citizens. It dovetails with the needs of students working on civic engagement, service learning, or any efforts to promote the common good.
As part of this work, we train young people in the key life skills that aren’t normally taught in school: skills for helping people get along better, such as empathy, compassion, altruism, and generosity. Like learning a foreign language, these are skills that people can improve with practice. Moreover, there are ways to measure people’s progress in many of these areas, seeing statistically significant growth.
3. We create transformative experiences that change people’s lives.
In its first 15 years, TAI has successfully run classes, seminars, and programs at more than 200 colleges and universities across the United States, including Harvard, Stanford, Yale, Princeton, Columbia, Cornell, Penn, Johns Hopkins, NYU, UCLA, and Berkeley. TAI’s programs have also spread around the world to tens of thousands of people from China to Brazil to South Africa.
Our work has also spread to high schools, college access programs, and dozens of nonprofits. We have trained hundreds of people who now use our curriculum around the globe. Our work has won multiple awards for excellence and innovation from Ashoka, as well as the praise of such organizations as the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.
